Dinosaur Movies Ranked | Cretaceous Classics or Cinematic Extinction?

Dinosaurs have stomped their way through cinema history, bringing awe, terror, and adventure to the big screen. From groundbreaking blockbusters to campy creature features, these prehistoric giants have thrilled audiences for generations. Some films capture the wonder and power of these ancient beasts, while others are nothing more than fossilized failures.

In this ranking, we’ll use a 1-to-5 scale—1 being a cinematic extinction event and 5 being a true Jurassic gem. Which dino movies stand the test of time, and which should’ve stayed buried? Stay tuned as we dig into the best and worst of dinosaur cinema! This ranker will be updated accordingly.

3-Star Ranking - Entertaining Watch

  • Claw (2021) - While driving through the desert en route to a gig in L.A., a budding comic and her bestie get stuck in a ghost town with a velociraptor on the loose. Although a better budget could've helped the special effects, this is a solid, standalone movie.
  • Dinosaur Hotel 2 (2022) - Surviving contestants are reunited in the ultimate game to win $10 million. Only one will claim the prize as the others fall to the dinosaurs. This is as hilarious as it is bad, but the entertainment factor is there is you like bad writing and bad special effects.
  • Hatched (2021) - A scientist who revived dinosaurs in a laboratory is killed by his creations before the monsters escape and an army platoon is sent to destroy them. Yeah, it's a bad movie but it has some of my favorite actresses that elevate the entertainment.

2-Star Ranking - Could've Been Better

  • Pterodactyl 2 (2023) - Terrorized by deadly winged pterodactyls, a group of hunters sets out to make the prehistoric creatures extinct once and for all. This is a bad film, but it does have its share of laughs with the ridiculous premise and knucklehead characters.
