Actor Aldis Hodge has been confirmed as the actor who will portray DC Comics' character Hawkman in the upcoming 2021 Black Adam movie. There's been a lot of controversy and statements of race bending as Hodge is African American and Hawkman is typically depicted as a white man.
Hawkman's first appearance was in Flash Comics #1 in 1940, created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Dennis Neville. He's most often depicted as human archaeologist Carter Hall who's the reincarnation of an ancient Egyptian prince named Khufu or an alien police officer from the planet Thanagar named Katar Hol. Hawkman's most distinguishing features are his large artificial wings attached to a harness, his winged helmet, and his mace. Hawkman has been portrayed by several actors over the years. Bill Nuckols portrayed him in the 1979 TV special Legend of the Superheroes, Michael Shanks in Smallville, and Falk Hentschel in the Arrowverse. Aldis Hodge will portray the character in the DC Extended Universe.
