Ranking Comic Book Vampire Movies

Welcome to our exploration of the undead in cinema, where we dive into the dark and thrilling world of vampire films inspired by comic books. Vampires have long been a compelling subject in both comics and movies, and this post ranks the best films that bring these bloodsucking creatures to life on the big screen.

From classic adaptations to modern reimaginings, comic book-based vampire films offer a unique blend of supernatural lore and cinematic flair. Whether you’re a fan of gothic horror or action-packed adventures, this ranking will highlight the standout vampire films that have made a significant mark on the genre. We'll update this post accordingly.

5-Star Ranking - Best of the Best

  • Blade II (2002) - Blade must join forces with an elite group of vampires to fight against mutant vampires who plan a global genocide of both vampire and human races. Not only a worthy sequel to a great movie but one of the best vampire films of all time.

4-Star Ranking - Top 10 Worthy

  • Blade (1998) - Blade is a Dhampir, a human with vampire strengths but not their weaknesses, who fights against vampires. The vampire film that put comic book vampire movies on the map with great performances, awesome action, and a badass soundtrack.

3-Star Ranking - Entertaining Watch

  • 30 Days of Night (2007) - Focuses on an Alaskan town beset by vampires as it enters into a 30-day-long polar night. It has the atmosphere, the gore, and a isolated feel with likable characters and an unyielding force.
  • The Batman vs. Dracula (2005) - Batman races to save Gotham City from his most challenging foe yet: the legendary vampire Count Dracula, who hatches a plot to enslave the city and create a race of vampires. Though I'm not a fan of the watered-down script it was pretty cool seeing Batman be outmaneuvered by Dracula.
  • Bordello of Blood (1996) - Rafe Guttman, a private investigator hired by Katherine Verdoux to investigate the disappearance of her brother Caleb which leads him to a bordello run by Lilith. Completely ridiculous but has enough humor and gore to be entertaining.

2-Star Ranking - Could've Been Better

  • 30 days of Night: Dark Days (2010) - After surviving the incidents in Barrow, Alaska, Stella Oleson relocates to Los Angeles, where she intentionally attracts the attention of the local vampire population in order to avenge the death of her husband, Eben. Great setup though it suffers from the straight-to-DVD sequel sickness.
  • Blade: Trinity (2004) - Blade has been framed for numerous murders by the vampire leader Danica Talos, who is determined to lead her bloodthirsty compatriots to victory. Blade must team up with a band of rogue vampire hunters to save humanity from his most challenging enemy yet, Dracula. Way too much comedy and one of the most underutilized Dracula's in film.
  • Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned (1980) - Dracula assumes control of a satanic cult and fathers a child through one of his followers, but the forces of both good and evil align themselves against him. Though it's not a good movie the first half does start off pretty strong, but the rest of the movie just becomes ridiculous.

1-Star Ranking - Total Trash

  • Morbius (2022) - Michael and his surrogate brother Milo (Smith) become living vampires after curing themselves of a rare blood disease. A watered-down mess to an otherwise potentially bloody superhero horror film.
  • Vampirella (1996) - Adam, a descendant of the Van Helsings, works for PURGE, a paramilitary group dedicated to hunting vampires. He teams up with the alien Vampirella in order to locate and deal with their common enemy, Vlad. Cheesy writing and bad acting have cursed this film to the depths of Hell.
  • Blood: The Last Vampire (2009) - A vampire named Saya, who is part of a covert government agency that hunts and destroys demons in a post-WWII Japan, is inserted in a military school to discover which one of her classmates is a demon in disguise. I don't know much about the anime it's based on but this movie was a mess; everything from bad acting to bad writing, to terrible visuals, and some of the worst dubbing I've ever seen.
