FX is reportedly partnering with Ubisoft to create a television adaptation of Far Cry, though official confirmation is still pending. The announcement, glimpsed in a now-deleted Ubisoft post, revealed an anthology format: each season set in a different world with new characters, mirroring the game franchise’s anthology structure.
Leading the creative charge are multi-hyphenate talent Rob McElhenney (Mythic Quest, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Noah Hawley (Fargo, Alien: Earth). Hawley will oversee the show as creator and showrunner, while McElhenney not only co-created the adaptation but is also set to star.
Executive production spans multiple collaborators: More Better Productions (McElhenney, Hawley); 26Keys Productions; 3Arts Entertainment; and Ubisoft’s internal team including Margaret Boykin. In comment, Boykin praised the creative synergy, calling the collaboration “an embarrassment of riches” and positioning the Far Cry story as a “psychological tailspin” perfectly aligned with FX’s bold narrative palette.
FX’s reputation for atmospheric, genre-driven television makes this adaptation feel like a natural fit. The anthology approach allows for creative freedom each season—a fresh tone, cast, or thematic focus without viewer fatigue. Pop culture audiences primed on Black Mirror or Fargo could readily embrace an episodic dive into Far Cry’s morally ambiguous landscapes.
Though not yet officially announced, the leak itself made ripples: fans expressed “cautious optimism” about how Hawley and McElhenney might transpose Far Cry’s tactical storytelling into a serialized drama, while rumors swirl about potential star casting and Easter eggs tied into its gaming roots.
